James Arthur Akers Jr.'s Obituary
James Arthur Akers Jr., 64, ascended to his heavenly home on Thursday, January 25, 2024.
James "Jimmy" or "Jim" was born in Grants Pass, Oregon June 15, 1959, to James Arthur Akers Sr. and Shirley L May Akers Heath. Both have preceded him in death.
Jimmy spent his early childhood in Simi Valley, California and Cape Girardeau, Missouri before his family relocated to Columbia, Missouri, where he remained the rest of his life. He attended Hickman High School. As a teen he worked at Nickerson Farms Restaurant. He was later employed by State Farm, Plaza Tire Service, Columbia Public Schools and Hendren Salvage.
Jimmy was an avid car enthusiast. He took great pride in his knowledge of auto mechanics and car building. That enthusiasm carried over to a hobby of model car kit building. Jimmy was a great animal lover his whole life. He is remembered to always have a faithful dog by his side.
Jimmy is survived by four daughters: Trisha Thurman of Columbia, Monica Akers (Wayne) of Ashland, Jesica Akers of Columbia and Jaynee Akers (Josh) of Harrisburg; three grandchildren Makayla Himmel, Braxton Harrison, Dominik Bratcher; one brother Terry Heath (Marty) of Ashland; one sister Jeanita Harrison (Tony) of Mexico, MO; one nephew Jeffery Heath (Lawanna) of Columbia; three nieces: Kimbra Furlong, Amberly Furlong (Sean) both of Mexico, MO and Heather Patton (John) of Ashland, MO; three half-sisters: Marilyn Akers of Arkadelphia, AR, Carolyn Akers of Alpaugh, CA, and Donna Akers-Williams of Hanford, CA; and stepfather Melvin Heath.
A celebration of life will be held on Friday, February 2, 2024, at the American Legion Hall in Ashland, Missouri from 4-6 PM.
