Reverend Horace Hopkins Jr.'s Obituary
Rev. Horace Hopkins Jr., 83, of Boonville passed on into eternity on Thursday April 11, 2013 at Ashley Manor Care Center in Boonville. Funeral services will be held Saturday April 20, 2013 at 11 am at HT May & Son Funeral Home in Boonville. Visitation will be from 10-11 am at the funeral home.
Reverend Horace Hopkins Jr. was born on April 4, 1930 in Boonville, MO to Horace Hopkins Sr. and Mary Butler. He leaves to cherish his memories five children: Rev. Keith Hopkins (Columbia, MO), Rev. Dale Hopkins (Boonville, MO), Christi Hopkins (Darrell) (Marshall, MO), Kay Hopkins (Slater, MO), and Richard Conway (St. Louis, MO). He also leaves five grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his mother, father, sister, three daughters, and his late wife Anna Louise Hopkins.
His godly life ended April 11, 2013 when Reverend Horace Hopkins Jr. was taken from us. We know he is at rest with our heavenly Father. The Lord took him to himself, where there is no pain and no burden of a tear. There are three steps to heaven- out of self; into Christ; into Glory.
Reverend Hopkins took these first two steps in life and lived a beautiful life in Christ. Now he has taken the third step where there is no more weeping, no pain, no sorrow, and no disappointment. We know he is satisfied now and that he is reaping his great reward reserved for the faithful.
His enthusiasm for his faith, his willingness to pay the price and to do his best for his Lord was his life purpose. It made him a loyal Christian and pastor.
He attended and graduated from Sumner High School in Boonville, MO in 1948 right before he accepted his calling into the ministry. He faithfully ministered the Word of God for more than sixty consecutive years. These sixty years consisted of him serving as pastor over eight churches within Central Missouri where he was known as the “Father of Central District” and the Moderator of Mt. Zion District. He was also a member of Fayette, MO Ministerial Alliance. Upon his retirement he became a member of Heath Creek Baptist Church in Boonville, MO. Upon residing at Ashley Manor Retirement Home in Boonville, MO he continued to spread the Good News.
He now has fulfilled his purpose, and his friends and family, though they may weep awhile, should rejoice with him, and thank our heavenly Father for the life he lived among us, and for taking him to the land of Glory as he has promised all the faithful. He will leave behind a great legacy and he will surely be missed by his family and many friends. Let us not forget his most well known quote, “attitude check, praise the lord”.
