Helen Jackman's Obituary
Helen Jackman, 95, of Fayette, MO, passed away on Sunday, October 30, 2022, at the University of Missouri Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM on Saturday, November 5, 2022, at the Faith Family Fellowship in Fayette. Helen Mae Jackman was born April 2, 1927, in Armstrong Mo to Awood Moore and Logan Moore. Helen was the youngest of three siblings. During her early years she attended public school in Armstrong. From the 9th to 11th grade, she attended Lincoln Public School. When Helen reached the 12th grade she attended Sumner High School in Boonville, Mo and graduated in 1945. Helen was a good student with solid academics.
On February 15, 1947, in Des Moines, IA she married Willis “Pee Wee” Jackman. Shortly thereafter, Fayette became her permanent residence. Helen and her husband became the proud parents of five sons, Willis Eugene, Michael, Tim, Don, and Curtis Jackman. She was a great cook and famously known for her “Jeff Davis” pies.
Most of Helen’s early years were performing day work for some of the prominent Fayette residents. This included ironing from her home for many of the local college students. In 1964, she begun working for Central Methodist University as a housekeeper in the dormitories. She retired in 1991, after spending 27 years at Central Methodist University.
Helen has been a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church for well over 50 years. During her early years she was in a Christian home and regularly attended the A.M.E. church with her father in Armstrong. Helen had been an active member of St. Paul, where she had served as member of the choir, Sunday School Superintendent, member and chair of the Stewards, member of United Methodist Women and committee member to the current and past Juneteenth Celebration Committee. In 2006 she was named Juneteenth grand marshal along with her long time and dear friend Auida Smith.
She was proceeded in death by her Husband, Willis Jackman, Son Willis Eugene (Loretta) Jackman , Parents Awood & Logan Moore, Brother Awood Moore Jr., Sisters Francis Moore & Alene Huguley, and Grandson Travis Lamont Crump.
She leaves to cherish her sons, Michael (Sherry) Jackman, Tim (Valerie) Jackman, Don (Carlis) Jackman, & Curtis Jackman, fifteen grandchildren, a host of great grandchildren, a special sister-in-law, Bertha Jackman, nieces and nephews and her loving church family.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to St. Paul United Methodist Church.
