Helen Christine Smith's Obituary
Helen Christine Smith, 72, of Columbia, passed into eternity on Tuesday, February 17, 2015 at her home. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 26, 2015 at Russell Chapel CME Church at 1:00 pm. Visitation will be from 11-1 Thursday at the church.
Helen was born August 1, 1942 to Wesley Bentley and Ella Mae Gibson in Fayette, MO. Both preceded her in death. She attended Fayette High School. She was employed at Stephens College in food service where she retired after over 40 years of service.
Helen was united in marriage to Walter Raymond Smith on June 6, 1960. They had two sons. She was a faithful and dedicated servant of the Lord for nearly 54 years at Russell Chapel CME Church. She served as President of the Della Ralph Missionary Society, served on the Steward Board, sang in the Senior Choir, and chaired many special programs involving planning and organizing meals, decorating, and clean up. She loved to keep a clean, well decorated home, shopping and cooking. Her greatest love was cooking and watching her family enjoy her well prepared meals during the holidays and summer cook outs.
She leaves to cherish her memory under the watchful eyes of God: her husband, Walter Raymond Smith of 55 years; son, Damon Smith of Jefferson City, MO; sisters Charlene Gibson of Oklahoma City, OK; Bonnie Gibson, Mary Turner, and Mary Broadus of Fayette, MO; Rev. Dana Carter (John) of Columbia, MO; and Kayla Gibson of Boonville, MO; brothers, Roger Gibson of Columbia, MO, Marvin Graves of Pilot Grove, MO, and Robert Graves of Fayette, MO; one granddaughter and two grandsons; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. One son, two brothers, three sisters, and three aunts preceded her in death.
