Hazel Marie Sheard's Obituary
Hazel Sheard, 92, of Columbia passed into eternity on Friday, July 29,2016, at Boone Hospital Center. Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 5, 2016, at Second Baptist church in Columbia at 11:30 AM. Visitation from 10:30-11:30 AM Friday at the church.
Mrs. Hazel Marie Sheard, age 92 went home with the Lord on Friday, July 29, 2016 at Boone Hospital surrounded by family.
She was born in McBaine, Missouri on June 26, 1924 to the late Thomas and Laura Hatton. She attended Grindstone School during her formal years and was a graduate of Douglas High School in Columbia, Missouri. She was a loving wife to the late James Arthur Sheard Sr. for 52 years, until his passing in 2005.
She worked various jobs throughout her lifetime, but one particular job touched many lives when she worked for Woodhaven Learning Center until her retirement in 1986.
She also dedicated herself as a Christian woman. She was a lifetime member of Mt. Celestial Baptist Church, serving on the Usher Board and on the Mission board for over 35 years. And served as President of the Usher Board for the Mt Carmel District Association for several years.
Reflecting on Mother's life she wore many hats of servitude. She devoted herself to her eight children serving as a Den Mother for Cub scouts, PTA and a Room Mother for all her children in school. She was a member of several organizations including War Mothers Chapter 6, American Legion #202, and Church Women United. She also served as a volunteer in the community for the Volunteer Action Center.
She treasured all of her grandchildren, her influence on their lives made many lifetime memories for each of them.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory, Five sons: Julius Sheard of Kansas City, MO; James (Debra) Sheard Jr, of Temple, Texas; Alvin(Sandra) Sheard of Columbia, MO; Karome Sheard of St. Louis, MO; and George Sheard of Fort Worth, Texas. Three daughters; Ruby(Robert) Jones of St. Louis, MO; Doris (Barry) White and Rasheedah Lois(John) King of Columbia, MO; 17 Grandchildren, 24 Great-Grandchildren and 3 Great-Great Grandchildren. One brother Roger Hatton of Kansas City, MO and two sisters Dorothy Lee and Grace Wright of Columbia, MO; And a host of family and friends.
Proceeding her in death, her husband James, her parents; two sisters; Evelyn Gordon and Elizabeth Alexander and six brothers; Thomas, Johnny, Billy, Calvin, Archie and Robert Hatton.
