Hattie R. Lawrence, 89, of Columbia, Mo., formerly of Springfield, Il. passed from this world into eternal life on Thursday, December 4, 2014 at Columbia Healthcare. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 9, 2014 at 11:00 am at the H.T. May and Son Funeral Home in Columbia, visitation will be from 10-11 Tuesday at the funeral home.
Hattie Rebecca Lawrence, formerly of Springfield,IL was born December 9,1924 to parents Theodora Wright and Romie Ward both of whom preceded in her death. She had 5 children; Bernard Ashcraft (Brenda wife) of San Bernardino, CA, Tony Ashcraft (preceded in her death), Lois Ashcraft of Tampa,Florida, Kaulene Ashcraft (preceded in her death), and Kenneth Ashcraft of Springfield,IL. Hattie raised two of her grandchildren that she considered as her own Antonio Ashcraft and Reknecka McTye both of Columbia,MO. She leaves 13 Grandchildren, 23 Great-Grandchildren, and 3 Great-Great Grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her husband Joe Lawrence.
She retired from McFarland Zone Center as dietary supervisor for 26 years. Hattie was a member of the American Legion Post #809 in Springfield, IL , and the Amvets of Springfield, IL. She enjoyed riding motorcycles, playing lottery, and going to the casinos. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. She also liked to travel. She was a member of the 700 club and also adopted kids through Feed the Children.
