Evelyn King, 87, of Columbia, MO, passed away on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at her home in Columbia, surrounded by her family. Services will be held on Saturday, June 28, 2025, at 1:00 PM at St. Luke United Methodist Church in Columbia. Visitation will be held from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at St. Luke United Methodist Church.
Evelyn L. King, 87, of Columbia, Missouri, passed away peacefully on June 21, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on April 13, 1938, in Columbia, she was the daughter of the late Geraldine Johnson and Charlie Hill. Evelyn was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend whose life was a testament to faith, love, and service. She was a faithful member of St. Luke United Methodist Church, where she served with pride on the usher board and in the church kitchen.
Evelyn's life was centered around her family. She is survived by three children: Sandra Jefferson (Reed), Rodney Woods (Toni), and Cortez King Sr. (Angel); one sister, Bennie Mae Maple; her cherished grandchildren: Jeffrey, Jovon, Cherelle, Cortez Jr., Catrina, Rodney II, Rhonda, Dionne, Deiandre, Tanesha, and Jaleesa; and 12 great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends who loved her dearly.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her grandmother, Maggie Coleman; her foster mother, Betty Poindexter; foster grandmother, Willie Tibbs; one daughter, Sherry Woods; one son, Randall King Sr.; one grandson, Randall King II; and two sisters, Ernestine Roberts and Betty Canton.
Evelyn was a woman of quiet strength, grace, and unwavering dedication to those she loved. She found great joy in caring for her children and grandchildren, and her warmth and kindness left a lasting impression on everyone she met.
