Etta Mae Webb's Obituary
Etta Mae Webb, 86, of Kansas City, passed away on Monday, July 10, 2023, at her home. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 20, 2023, at Centennial United Methodist Church at 11:00 AM. Visitation will be from 10-11 AM at the Church.
Etta Mae Jackson, 86, passed away at home on July 10, 2023. She was born Dec. 3, 1936 to Clifford and Catherine Drew Jackson in Speed, Mo.
She was preceded in death by both parents, Stepmother Ruby Jackson, Brothers Harry Jackson, Morris Jackson, Stepbrother Orlando Coleman and Grandson Franklin Campbell.
Etta Mae was united in marriage to George L. Webb. They were married 67 years. To this union 1 daughter was born, Ninette Kim Campbell. After Etta and George married, they moved to Kansas City, Mo.
Etta Mae accepted Christ at an early age and joined Bethel AME church in Speed, Mo. She joined St. Stephens Baptist Church in the 1970’s.
Etta Mae attended elementary school in Speed, Mo. She graduated from Sumner high school in Boonville, Mo.
After moving to Kansas City, she attended nursing school at the University of Kansas graduating as a Licensed Practical Nurse. She worked at KU until 1966. She then began working at Research Medical Center. She was at Research until she retired in 1998. While at Research she worked in the Emergency Dept., Nephrology Dept., and as coordinator of the Business and Industry Health Group.
While in the Nephrology Dept. as received recognition for developing a money saving process. Etta’s idea was to draw saline solution for several procedures from a large saline bag eliminating the need for individual vials previously used. The result was a substantial yearly savings.
After her grandson survived a bone marrow transplant, she volunteered with her daughter to sign up many, many African Americans to join the National Marrow Donor Registry program to give other African Americans the chance to find a successful bone marrow match.
She was also photographed for several Hallmark greeting cards.
Etta was a magnet for children and was grandma to many other than Franklin and Phillip. She was a special grandma to Christopher Hill and his daughter Christen Hill.
She leaves to cherish her memory husband George, daughter Ninette (Frank), grandson Phillip, 1 sister Estelle May, 2 brothers Melvin Butler, Marvin Butler, Christopher and Christen Hill and many nieces, nephews and friends.
We will miss her baked cookies and cakes and her sassy attitude.
