Ethel M. Hooker's Obituary
Ethel M. "Masa" Hooker, 76, of Columbia, passed away on Sunday, December 8, 2019, at her home. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 21, 2019, at Second Baptist Church in Columbia at 12:00 PM. Visitation will be from 11AM -12PM Saturday at the church.
Masa passed peacefully from this life the morning of December 8th after a gradual decline in health. She was surrounded and supported by her loving family during her last days of her life.
Masa was born in Yazoo, MS on March 31,1943 to Willie Mae Emory and Roger Sims SR. In her adult life traveled to East Saint Louis, IL worked as an housekeeper then to Columbia, MO for the reminder of her life.
Masa grew up in a Baptist church and was known for her generosity she'll open her door to anyone greeting them with a smile showing her golden tooth. She admired her family especially her children, grandchildren, and great-grand children. Her hobbies included fishing, bingo, gardening, listening to blues, and gathering with family.
Her daughter Mary Williams reflected how her mother taught her how to garden and remember her mother saying, " When you plant the seed have faith it will grow." Cynthia Williams recalled her mother saying " Have faith!".

She was preceded in death by her mother Willie Mae Emory, her father Roger Sims SR., her spouse Melvin C. Williams, her siblings Alberta Sims, Cora Sims, Roger Sims JR., Willie Sims Sr., and Rosie Marie Sims.
She is survived by her siblings Frances Rucker, Dorothy Sims, Mary Louise Thomas. She also survived by her Children Louis Hooker of Jefferson City, Mo., Melvin hooker of Minneapolis , MN., Cynthia Williams, Serge Williams of Wentzville, Mo., Alice Hooker of Memphis, TN., David Williams,Carol McCartney Mary Williams, Janice Hooker,and Jackie Hooker, and Barbara Sims, John Govan all of Columbia,mo, and a host of 32 grandchildren, 90 great-grand children, nieces, nephews , and friends.
