Estil Lee West Jr.'s Obituary
Estil Lee West Jr., 76, of Columbia, Missouri, entered into the Masters' Paradise on Sunday, May 14, 2017, at Boone Hospital Center. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 25, 2017, at Progressive Missionary Baptist Church at 12:00 PM. Visitation will be from 10-12 PM Thursday at the church.
Estil was born on April 6, 1941. The eldest child of Mary E. (Norman) West and Estil West Sr. He graduated from Fred Douglass School in 1959. Estil married his childhood sweetheart in June 1960 and three children were born from this union.
Estil worked at Gene Glenn, First Christian Church, and was self-employed flipping houses. He was a member of the Stroke Survivors Group and President of the American Heart Association.
Estil attended Log Providence Church. He was a trustee at Simpson Chapel and the overseer of the building and grounds. He had help from Steve Estes, Dave Turner, and Tyrone Turner with mowing the cemetery. Estil was an active member of Church of New Hope under the leadership of Rev. James Mahaney. He continued the tradition of Great Aunt Alice Brown Christmas Fellowship Dinner.
He leaves to cherish his memory one daughter Deidrea C. Murray of Columbia, one son Farrin A. (Anita) West, of Columbia, two sisters Alyce E. (Michael) West Jones of St. Louis, Missouri, Essie M. (Robert) West Redmon of Columbia, and one brother Everett T. West of Columbia. He also leaves grandchildren LaDeisha West, Sharice Hickem, Matthew Fields, and Alfonso Hayes, great grandchildren Deondray West, DeHajane West, Desjamone Hickem, Ryleigh Hickem, Nicholi Fields, and Karasyn Fields, two aunts Georgia (James) Porter of Columbia, and Fannie Hayes of Fresno, California, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son Estil L. West III, and brother John West of California.
