Emmett Jackson's Obituary
Emmett Jackson, of Sedalia, MO Passed away on Wednesday June 20, 2012 at his home. Funeral services will be held Saturday June 30, 2012 at 1PM at Burns Chapel in Sedalia, MO.
Emmett was born December 19, 1936 in Sedalia Missouri, son of Emmett O. Jackson Jr. and Sadie (Wise) Jackson. He attended C.C. Hubbard School in Sedalia where he graduated in 1954. On February 20, 1960 he was united in marriage to Barbara Jean (Wright) Jackson the love of his life. They were married for 51 years before her passing in 2011.
He was a member of Taylor Chapel United Methodist Church. He loved fishing, playing cards and spending time with his children and their friends. He shall be remembered for saying “we need to do this or that,” whatever chore it may be and then sit back and watch everyone else complete the job while he watched with his legs crossed in the shade.
He was affectionately known as Daddy, Grandpa, Mr. E, PAPA J, Mr. Emmett, and Unc. by many. Emmett worked for 3 years at Swift’s here in Sedalia and then went to work for Coca Cola where he worked for 44 years, retiring in 2008. He and the family also cleaned several office spaces here in Sedalia. The longest space they cleaned was Gardner, Gardner, and Gardner law offices until his health begin to decline. He taught his children if you borrow a dollar, pay back a dollar and you will always be able to get a dollar.
He leaves to cherish his memory his three children: Mary Frances Harris of Denver, CO, Donna Jean Jackson and Emmett Jackson IV both of Sedalia, five grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, a niece whom he helped to raise, Tina (L.A.) Boggess four sisters in law, Betty Starks (Charles) Springfield, ILL, Georgia Maupins, Tipton, MO, Mary L. Wright, Boonville, MO Margaret Ann Wright, Lompoc, CA, one brother in law Richard Wright, Columbia, MO and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, the SPECIAL girls next door and many friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Yvonne, and his loving wife.
