Edwrina Houston's Obituary
Edwrina Houston, 100, of Columbia, MO., was received into the arms of Jesus on Wednesday, November 2, 2016, at her home. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 19, 2016, at Progressive Baptist Church at 11:00 AM. Visitation will be from 10-11 Am Saturday at the church.
Edwrina Houston was born April 29, 1916, in St. Louis, Missouri, to Edward Hill and Hannah Ellis. She was the youngest. Edwrina and her sister Willette danced at the Fox Theater and Booker Theater .
Edwrina married Leviticus Houston on March 29, 1932. She had nine children and was a stay at home mother. Her husband was in the US Army. Edwrina accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior in 1946. She received the baptism of the Holy Spirit. She was a member of the Church of God in Christ in Fayette, Missouri, under the leadership of Elder Jesse Adams Teverbaugh.
In 1952 Edwrina formed a gospel quartet group called the Four Leaf Clovers with three of her daughters. Leona singing the lead, Dorothy singing alto, Hannah singing Tenor and playing the piano, with Edwrina singing bass. They had a weekly radio broadcast on Sunday mornings from 7:30-8:30am. The radio station was KMMO in Marshall, Missouri. She also had six other children singing and ministering God's word. Edwrina #2, Gloria, Zonia, Leviticus, Nathaniel, Stanley. They traveled all through Missouri, Arkansas, Tennessee, New Mexico, Texas and California. They also performed on the Ted Mack Amateur Hour and traveled with their pastor.
Edwrina attended Fellowship at Faith Temple in St. Louis, Mo. Her education was in St. Louis Public Schools. She came to Columbia to live with her granddaughter Sheila in October 2014. She loved singing, playing piano, praying, reading the Bible, and praising God. She liked playing her tambourine, Tulips, shopping and loved to dress up. God prepared a place for Edwrina, and he came back to receive her on November 2, 2016.
Edwrina leaves to cherish her memories Leviticus Houston of Pueblo, Colorado, Nathaniel Houston of Houston, Texas, Stanley Houston of Fulton, Missouri, Dorothy, Gloria, And Zonia Houston of St. Louis, Missouri and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Leviticus Houston, his parents, two daughters Leona and Hanna Houston and one sister Willette Barnes.
