Edward Crews' Obituary
Edward Crews, 84, of Columbia, passed away on Wednesday, October 5, 2016, at the Harry S. Truman Memorial Veterans' Hospital in Columbia. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 15, 2016, at 12 PM at Progressive Missionary Baptist Church in Columbia. A visitation will be held from 11 AM to 12 PM at the church.
Edward Crews was born on March 12, 1932, in Hatton, MO, to the late Thomas and Louise Crews. Edward received his education at Frederick Douglass School; he played football and graduated in 1952. Mr. Crews enlisted in the United States Marine from April 1952 to March 1955. He received the UN service medal, the Korean Service medal, the National defense service medal and the good conduct medal.
After his military service, he relocated to Denver, Colorado, and worked for the City of Denver Parks and Recreation Department. During this time he also had a professional lawn service business that provided services to many clients in Colorado. Mr. Crews retired in 1996 after 30 years of employment and relocated back to Columbia, MO.
Edward enjoyed traveling, fishing, attending rodeos, football, wrestling; and he was a Denver Bronco fan, his favorite color was orange.
Ed leaves to cherish his memories, three sons, Vernis, Michael, and Normon Crews of Denver, Colorado, two daughters, Jessica (Ron) Hickem, Melisa (Edward) Crews-Vaughn of Columbia, MO, Two sisters; Ada Williams and Linnie Bell Cady of Denver, Colorado and a brother Richard (Marcella) of St. Nazaire, France.
Ed had 14 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents, one sister (Dora Black), one brother (Russell Crews), and a son (Ron Crews).
