Dwayne Cox's Obituary
Dwayne Cornell Cox, 51, passed in peace on May 21, 2014, with his family by his side. After his fight with cancer he went home to be with our Lord. The funeral service will be held Tuesday May 27, 2014, with visitation at 10:00 a.m. and service to follow at 11:00 a.m., at Progressive Missionary Baptist Church, Columbia, Missouri.
Dwayne was born Sept 9, 1962 in Columbia, Missouri, where he graduated from David H. Hickman High School in 1981. He later joined the United States Marine Corps, where he served 18 months and was honorably relieved of duty. He then graduated from Brown-Mackie College in Kansas City, Missouri, with an Associate’s Degree in Business.
Dwayne spent his life working construction as a passionate journeyman and electrician. He was an intellectual man who loved to share his wisdom with his family and friends. He was an avid sports enthusiast and played football, baseball and ran track in High School. He cherished his family and believed that being together and sharing our legacy was important. Family gatherings for reunions, holidays, and just get-togethers, were events he always looked forward to. He was a proud father of his “babies” to include two daughters and three grandchildren.
His hobbies included reading, politics, religion, and spending quality time with his family.
Dwayne was also a charter member at Progressive Missionary Baptist Church.
Dwayne is survived by his mother, Bobbie (Rev. George Sr.) Coleman of Columbia, natural father, Stanley Bly of Kansas City, Missouri; children Brittney (C. Byron) Wilson, of Fairfield, California, Jessica (Brent Ziulkowski) Cox, of Tampa, Florida; grandchildren, Mason and Daxon Ziulkowski, and C. Jude Wilson; brother Michael (Cathy) Cox of Columbia; special friend Denise Damaron of Columbia; four aunts, two uncles, four nephews, one niece, and many cousins, extended relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his brother Eric Criss and grandparents Worth and Nellor Cox.
