Doris Newcomb's Obituary
Doris Newcomb was born January 15, 1929 to John & Hilma (Martin) Doubet in Galesburg, Illinois. She married George L Newcomb September 12, 1952 in Farmington IL.
While her headstone will read the dates of her birth and death, They say you measure your life by how you lived “the dash” Doris Newcomb exceeded anyone’s expectations for how someone should live the dash. She was a beautician for 52 years in Farmington and Ellisville, IL. She was an active member in her church as well as the Extension Homemakers where she served as Ways & Means Chairman for over 18 years. She was also an active member of the Valley High School Athletic Boosters.
Her family, however, was her greatest pride and joy. She and George moved to Columbia, MO, in 2000 to be closer to their grandchildren. Doris spent many hours enjoying family activities and sporting events. Doris was one of six siblings. She is survived by two brothers, Wayne Doubet and Tom (Connie) Doubet. Two brothers, Robert “Bob” and Glen, a sister, Frances Booher, proceeded her in death. Also preceding her in death were her Loretta Doubet, Marilyn (Williams) Doubiet, Marilyn (Bird) Doubet, and Gary (Skip) Booher.
After George passed in 2016, she lived her final years with her daughter, Jo Britt-Rankin and her husband Bobby Rankin. She was a proud, loving grandmother to Katlyn (Will) Garrett, Kristopher Rankin, Katryna (Forrest) Sardis, and Kassie (Blaine) Chandler. She spent her final days adoring her five great grandchildren Bryan Sardis, Julien Garrett, Quynn Sardis, Elodie Garrett and Hayes Garrett.
Doris will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She almost always smiling. She would tell you she didn’t start to get older until about the age of 88. She was always there to lend a helping hand, listen or enjoy a meal with someone. She set the example for each of us on how to make the most of “the dash” and for that we are all eternally grateful.
