Dekimbra “Kim” Martin left this earthy realm on May 14, 2023, after a 9-month battle with uterine cancer. She was 64 years old.
It would be wrong to say that Kim lost her battle because she never stopped fighting. No matter how sick she was, she maintained her trust in the Lord. When everyone else would have broken, Kim stayed strong to be there for her family. Through her, we know what faith and devotion truly looks like. Just because she is no longer here, doesn’t mean she lost her fight.
Kim was born on April 4, 1959, to Richard “Dickey” Barner and Virginia “Juanita” Council in Boonville, Missouri. Kim graduated from Boonville High School. Shortly thereafter, Kim met and married Danny Martin. Danny and Kim were married for 42 years. Kim was a dedicated wife and mother, first and foremost. She treasured her children and embraced every moment with them. She especially loved her role as “Nana.”
Anyone who knew Kim, knew she loved the Lord. She was a member of St. Matthew's Chapel AME Church in Boonville, MO. Her faith was larger than life. Kim’s family was the other large part of her life. She loved her husband with all her heart. She also enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren grow-up and that alone brought her joy and happiness.
She leaves to cherish her memory: her husband, Danny Martin of Boonville, MO; mother, Juanita Council of Moberly, MO; two brothers, Rance Givens of Boonville, MO and David Givens of Columbia, MO; two sisters, Gwen Givens of Columbia, MO and Richelle Barner of Boonville, MO; two daughters, Raina Martin of Columbia, MO and Rozlyn Drew of Columbia, MO; 5 grandchildren, Jalyn Schnetzler of Kansas City, MO; Jodie Bass of Boonville, MO; Bryce Drew of Columbia, MO; Brevin Drew of Columbia, MO; and Rilyn Dani Martin of Columbia, MO; two aunts, Pam Dowe of Boonville, MO and Veda Givens of Lee’s Summit, MO; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Kim is preceded in death by her father, Dickey Barner; brother, Don Givens; and sister, Devett Givens.
