David Horrell's Obituary
David Preston Horrell, 77, of Columbia entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, November 29, 2016, at University of Missouri Hospital. Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 5, 2016, at Second Missionary Baptist Church in Columbia at 12:00 PM. Visitation will be from 10 AM -12 PM at the Church.
David was born in Columbia, Missouri to Handley and Edna Christine Horrell on November 1, 1939. He was born the 6th of 7 children.
David lived his entire life in Columbia and attended Fredrick Douglas High School. He graduated in 1957 where he was an exceptional athlete in basketball, baseball and football. After graduation, he played two years with the semi-pro Columbia Falcons Football Club. David became the first graduate of the University of Missouri School of Radiologic Technology program. He began a 40 year career at the University Medical Center and later at the VA hospital. David retired from the VA in 2002. His passions in life were being an accomplished cook and gardener, and he loved sports. David was also a lifetime founding member of the Columbia Imperial Club.
David is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 55 years, Barbra; his son, Darren; his daughter-in-law, Angelyn; and the love of his life, his granddaughter, Morgan. They reside in Dallas, Tx. David was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Sidney Horrell; and sister, Lula Williams. Survivors include his brother Richard (Minta) Horrell; sisters, Edna Laura Ann Hammond (Ronald); Florence Pruitt (George-deceased); and sister-in-law Senequa Horrell. He also leaves a host of nieces and nephews.
