Coretta Darlene “Dottie” Arthur, 85, of Columbia, passed away on Thursday December 18, 2014 at The Bluffs. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 27, 2014 at 11:00am at Second Baptist Church in Moberly. Visitation will be from 10-11 at the church.
Coretta Darlene (Dottie) Arthur went home to be with her heavenly Father on Thursday, December 18, 2014 at 9 p.m.at The Bluffs Nursing Home in Columbia, MO. God saw it was time for her to rest and sent his Angels to carry her home. Coretta was born July 6, 1929 to parents Harry L and Christine Arthur. She grew up and spent most of her adult life in Moberly, MO (which was always her home).
Coretta worked many years as a cook at Merchants Hotel and restaurants and did domestic work for many years. She last worked as a foster grandparent for the Headstart Program in Columbia, MO. Coretta (Dottie) was well known for her lively, feisty spirit. She loved life, but most of all she loved her children, grandchildren and family. Her children, nieces and nephews share many memories of Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners at her home. She loved spending time with her great-grandson, Isaiah.
Coretta was preceded in death by her son, Howard (Bubbles) Smith, parents, Harry L. and Christine Arthur, brothers, Harry L. Arthur, Jr. William(Bill) Arthur, Donald L. Arthur, and sisters, Evelyn Burgess, and Betty Yancey.
She leaves to cherish her memory, daughter, Virginia Wilson, Columbia MO; one sister Carrie Payne, Moberly, MO ; 7 grandchildren; Deronne Wilson( Columbia, MO); Malissa Smith( Jefferson City; Tasha Charleston (Springfield, MO); Anthony Terrell (Jefferson City, MO) ; Sonya Mann and Clarissa Mann (Denver, Colorado Tituann Lonnie Davis (Minneapolis, Minnesota); 15 great grandchildren and a host nieces and nephews.
