Charlotte Hammond's Obituary
Charlotte Hammond, 100, of Columbia, Mo., passed away on Sunday, April 10, 2016 at South Hampton Place. Visitation will be from 5-7 pm Friday, April 15, 2016 at H.T. May and Son Funeral Home in Columbia.
Mrs. Charlotte Myers Hammond, 100 years 7 months old, peacefully transitioned to her heavenly home at South Hampton Place, Columbia, Missouri.
Ms. Charlotte, a twin, was born September 7, 1915 in Barnwell County, South Carolina to Owen (John) Jasper and Julia Ayers Myers. She was the fifth of twelve children born to this union.
At a young age, she joined Miller Swamp Baptist Church in Sycamore, SC and was raised in Allendale County South Carolina.
There she received her education and was graduated from Morris College, Sumter, SC in May 1939. Her teaching career began in Fairfax, SC, then as she started her family, moved to Aiken, SC and finally retired from Laurens County schools in 1978. She positively touched many of her student’s lives.
Charlotte married Harold W. Hammond in January 1946. To this union two daughters were born, Marian Patricia and Brenda Kathryne Hammond.
While living in Laurens, SC, she joined and was an active member of Springfield Baptist Church until her health declined and she moved to Missouri to live with Brenda in 2009, who was her caregiver for 7 years.
She was a member of Effion Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, Aiken SC.
While living in Columbia, Missouri, she attended Second Baptist Church where she was loved by many for her quick wit and tell it like it was humor.
Ms. Charlotte, as she was fondly called, has lived a long life, seen world wide changes that most of us will never see in our life time. Truly she was a “Blessed” woman.
Charlotte leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Brenda, grandson, Ryan (Nadine) Williams of North Salem, NY, three great-grandsons, Justin Alexander, Grayson Atley and Connor Anthony Williams, two sisters, Mrs. Eliza Cave and Ms. Ruth Myers of Allendale, SC, three sisters-in-law, Mrs. Rumel J. Myers, Mrs. Alean Hammond, Mrs. Noran Hammond, and host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Charlotte was preceded in death by her twin brother, parents, husband, daughter, one sister and three other brothers.
