Byron Smith, 64, of Columbia, passed away on Monday, June 17, 2024, at his home. Services will be held on Tuesday, July 2, 2024 at 12:00 PM at Broadway Christian Church in Columbia. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Broadway Christian Church on Tuesday.
Born on June 9, 1960, in Columbia, MO, Byron was the beloved son of Leroy and Kay Smith. A proud 1979 graduate of Rock Bridge High School, he went on to study art at the University of Missouri. Byron was a remarkably talented artist, known and admired throughout central Missouri for his creative works.
Byron leaves behind a loving family to cherish his memory, including his devoted mother, Kay Smith of Columbia, MO; his siblings, Teresa Nichols, Caesario Smith, and Minta Amponsah, all of Columbia, MO; his great aunt, Winnie Coates Freelon; his aunt, Genevieve Davis; and his uncles, Harry Smith (Charlene) and Ernest Smith. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews, Julian Jackman (Whitney) of Columbia, MO, Kay Davis of Columbia, MO, Isaiah Davis (Lauren) of New Jersey, Caesario Davis of Los Angeles, CA, Shawnta Jett (Lauren) of Fulton, MO, and Keonia Nichols of Columbia, MO. Additionally, Byron will be fondly remembered by his god-sister, Yvonne Matthews, his god-nephew, Ricky Rollins, and a host of great-nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Leroy Smith, and his sister, Donna Davis.
Byron's legacy of artistic brilliance, coupled with his warm heart and loving spirit, will be deeply missed but forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
