Bret Lucas, 56, of Russell Kansas, passed away on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, at his home. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, December 20, 2025, at the Green Acres Cemetery in Columbia, MO at 2:00 PM.
Bret Alden Lucas, 56, passed away peacefully at his home in Russell, KS on December 16, 2025. He is survived by his loving wife of 22 years, Jennifer, and his children, Liberty and John.
Bret was a man of many talents and passions, impossible to capture fully in words. He was a husband, father, and son, but also a chemist, business owner, and lifelong learner. His creative spirit shone brightly in his art—especially his oil and acrylic paintings, which reflected his unique perspective and love for beauty.
Music was another of Bret’s great loves. He could often be found playing guitar, jamming at full volumef, filling the house with energy and joy (and annoying the neighbors). His adventurous nature led him and Jennifer on countless journeys, exploring new places and eating, exciting, new cuisines. Together, they shared a passion for cooking, inventing recipes and discovering flavors from around the world.
Bret’s curiosity was boundless. With degrees in chemistry and biochemistry, he built a self-taught career in web development, always eager to master new subjects and skills. His love of words was a hallmark of his conversation—he delighted in using unusual, precise language to express his thoughts with clarity and wit.
Bret’s legacy is one of creativity, adventure, and a deep love of learning. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, his witty conversations, and his passion for new experiences.
