Bonnie Diane Garcia Simmons' Obituary
Bonnie Diane Garcia Simmons, 80, was born February 27, 1940, to the union of Caesario Garcia and Laura Minta Coates in Columbia, Missouri. Her mother later married her step father Hubert Davis. Bonnie relocated to Wilmington NC after meeting the love of her life Gaines Simmons. The two became one on June 19, 1957. Bonnie spent most of her adult life in Wilmington NC, ultimately relocating back to Columbia Missouri and remaining there until her untimely death on November 4, 2020.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 14, 2020 at St. Luke United Methodist church at 2:30 PM, with visitation starting at 2:00 PM.
Bonnie attended Frederick Douglass High School in Columbia which was an all African American school back in her days. She participated in many activities, one of her favorite activities was band where she played the flute, clarinet, and trombone. She loved music and spending time with her close friend Ms. Barbara Smith.
Bonnie chose to be a housewife and a mother, as stated earlier when she met the love of her life, Gaines Simmons. After traveling with her spouse (Gaines Simmons) and their five beautiful children, Bonnie settled in Gaines’ hometown of Wilmington NC. She went on to have numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren. She was the best grandma ever in their eyes.
She leaves Aunt Winnie Freelon, sister Kay Smith (Leroy) of Columbia, MO, three daughters Michael Kay Love of Madison, MO, Ceandrio Gaynell Hudspeth of Columbia, MO, Kimi Rae Simon of Columbia, MO, four granddaughters Bonnie Simmons of Denver CO, Laura Carr of Wilmington NC, Shauma Simon of Wilmington NC, Shayla Simon of Wilmington NC, ten great grandsons, eight great granddaughters, one great great grandson.
Bonnie was preceded in death by her beloved mother Laura Davis, step-father Hubert Davis, father Caesario Garcia, husband Gaines Simmons, daughter Bonnie D. Simmons, son Gaines Simmons Jr., and two grandsons-Tony Carr and Michael Carr.
