Betty Jean Harris' Obituary
Betty Jean Harris, 89, of Fayette, slept into the arms of Jesus on Tuesday, May 3, 2016 at University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 7, 2016 at 1:00 PM at Linn Memorial United Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 10-1 PM Saturday at the Church.
Betty Jean (Big Moma) Harris died on May 3rd at University Hospital in Columbia, MO. She was born February 12, 1927 in Maryville, MO. She was the daughter of Robert Harris and Kerrie Ashcraft.
She was baptized as a member and attended Second Baptist Church under Pastor Leon Hannah. Everyone that knew our mother knew her as “Big Moma”.
She attended Lincoln School in Fayette, MO. She went to Beautician School in Dayton, Ohio. She was a beautician out of home for the number of years. She worked for Human Development Corp. before going to work as a private housekeeper. She worked as a private housekeeper for many years until her retirement.
She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Charles Harris, Vanessa Smith and Tammie Harris, all of Fayette, MO; Darrell (Novella) Harris of Ullin, IL. Also she leaves her sister, Esther Mills of Cameron, MO; her brother, Olive(Connie) Harris of Durham, North Carolina; thirteen grandchildren: Timothy Harris (Tessie), Chequelia Vineyard-Oguntoye (Audi), Dashawn Harris (Dara), Erica Doxley (Ryan), Eric Harris (April), Darrell Harris Jr., Derrick Nicholson, Ari Harris, Tiffany Harris (Marc), Brittany Nicholson, Armetrice Harris, Kamyra Kemp, Kameron Kemp and twenty-six great grandchildren as well as a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Preceding her in death are her grandmother, Ola Miller; her brother, Paige Harris; daughter, Carolyn Harris; son, Donald Harris; and an uncle, William Ashcraft.
