Auida C. Smith's Obituary
Auida C. Smith, 79, of Dallas, Tx., formerly of Fayette, Mo. died Monday in Dallas. Funeral services will be held at 1 pm on Saturday August 31, 2013 at St. Paul United Methodist Church in Fayette. The visitation will be held from 12-1 pm at the church.
Auida Corene Smith was born July 8, 1934, at Lee Hospital in Fayette, Missouri, to the late Ellen Hill and Hickman Leonard. Auida was the fourth of five children. During her childhood she was raised in the Fayette community. Auida attended school at Lincoln Public School through the 10th grade. Her 11th and 12th grade years were spent at Dalton Vocational High School in Dalton, MO, where she was member of the high school cheerleading squad.
Over her lifetime Auida has lived in Dallas, TX for three years; Columbia, MO for thirty years; and the remainder of her life in Fayette, MO. When she graduated from high school Auida worked at Central Methodist College in the dining area. Later, she worked as a nutrition assistant at Boone County Extension Office and then twenty-one years at 3M, as an electronics part inspector until her retirement in 1995. Auida has been a faithful member of St. Paul United Methodist Church since her early childhood. She has been active in the Choir, United Methodist Women, Stewards and the Juneteenth Celebration Committee. Her hobbies include cooking and entertaining.
Auida was lovingly called “Sweet Weets or Weets.” She earned these nicknames because she was such a sweet person and
all who came in contact with her were blessed by her kindness and servant spirit. Auida is the proud mother of one son, Sterling E. Holt who resides in Dallas, TX and lovingly referred to his home as her winter home because she would spend the winter months in Dallas.
Auida leaves to cherish her memory her son, Sterling (Veta) Holt of DeSoto, TX; one brother, Fred Hill of Los Angeles, CA; two sisters: Mildred Stemmons (late Elroy) of Rocheport, MO and Beverly (Julian) Holt of Dallas, TX. One brother Floyd Leonard of Fayette MO preceded her in death. She was adored by her five grand godchildren Ericka Wright, Kim and Nicole Holmes, Sydney and Sabrina Kidd.
Auida had a special relationship with all of her nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins and friends.
Auida also leaves to treasure her memory her best friend of many years Mrs. Helen Mae (Sue) Jackman.
Auida’s favorite saying:
I don’t worry because I know that God has my back. Some things we have to endure in this life but I know who my Savior is.
