Anna Sue Cravens' Obituary
Anna Sue Cravens, of Fayette, answered the call of Jesus on Friday, September 21, 2012 at her home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday at Holy Ground Church of God in Christ with burial in Fayette City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10-11 am at the church.
Anna Sue Cravens was born December 20, 1924 in Fayette the daughter of Cordie and Annie Bradford Paige. She was a member of Holy Ground Church of God in Christ and was the District Mother of the Marshall District, Hospitality President, and held numerous positions in the church.
Under the leadership of J.A. Teverbaugh, she professed her love for Christ and accepted the Lord at an early age. She served as the Marshall District Church Mother until 1999. She also served as a Hospitality Leader, working with Minister’s and Evangelist’s in the church as well as in their homes.
Anna Sue was united in marriage to Marion Cravens, Sr. On August 3, 1946. In this union, nine children were born.
Anna Sue was employed as a nurse at Rest Haven. She also worked at Gas Light Inn and Brown Restaurant as cook. She retired from Central Methodist University Parish House in 1982.
Anna leaves to cherish and honor her memory her children, Bernard, Freddie, Marion, Jr., Carolyn, Cindy and Eric. She also leaves to treasure her memory, her sisters, Leona Wayland, Mary Banks of Fayette, MO. Nannie Mae Broadus of Boonville, MO, Gladys Roland of Columbia, MO, Dr. Helen I. Clay of Des Moines, IA. She also leaves to honor her memory nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, a host of relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her son Glenn, her daughter’s Mary and Donna, her grandson, Clayton C. Paige, her brother’s Julius, Ruben, Cordell, Walter and Stanford and her sister’s Madeline, Helen Louise, Maureen and Theresa Ann.
Affectionately known by many as Mother Cravens, she tirelessly worked to please and live for The Lord. She often said that she was working on “the building, the sure foundation”. She was a mentor and a mighty prayer warrior. She shared her wisdom and encouraged all through song to run for the Lord and try to make one hundred because “Ninety-Nine and a half won’t do”
