Ann Wright's Obituary
Ann Wright, 90, of Columbia MO passed away on Monday, January 30, 2023, at her home surrounded by her family. Services will be held Saturday, February 4, 2023, at 1:00 PM at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church in Columbia. Visitation will be from 12:00 to 1:00 PM at the church on Saturday.
Anna (Ann) Catherine Stoner Wright was born on Monday November 16th, 1933, to Cyrene Delilah Young Stoner and Ezra Wood Stoner in Mexico MO. She departed this life early Monday morning January 30th, 2023, surrounded by her loved ones in the comfort of her own home.
Ann accepted Christ in her life at a very young age at Second Missionary Baptist Church Mexico, MO. She graduated from Garfield High School in 1952 and went on to complete several licensed trades post high school. She married Emmett Leon Wright on December 26th, 1956, and to this union they had one daughter Wanaca P. Wright Johnson. She was also blessed with two bonus children and many bonus grandchildren. She had a long career at the University of Missouri Classical Studies Department where she retired in 1992. She went on to start a cake decorating business with her niece called Agies & Babies all while being a wonderful grandmother daily to her grand and great grandchildren. For 60 years she was an active member of the Amos Johnson Chapter #30 Order of Eastern Star and a host of other groups/clubs.
Ann is survived by her sister Alberta Yvonne Bryant daughter Wanaca (Anthony) Johnson, grandchildren she raised Thomeana Porter, Arthur Johnson, Darlene (Eric) Grant, great-grandchildren Octavia Stewart, Olivia Johnson, Briana Grant, Phillip Porter 3Rd, Matthew Porter, Christopher Grant, Darius Jasper, Tyniya Williams, great great grandchildren Maaz Quinn, Oliver Stevens, Kehlani Porter, lifetime best friends Barbara West and Evelyn Butler and a host of niece and nephews.
She was proceeded in death by her husband of 49 years Emmett, father Ezra, mother Cyrene, brother Minor, three sisters Margurite Reynolds, Barbara Jean Bassett, Alice Jean Garth and a granddaughter LeWana Johnson.
