Born in Washington, D.C., on June 24, 1952, Albert Newsome, Sr. was a cherished gift to his late parents, Augusta and N.C. Newsome. As one half of a beloved pair of twins, he shared a special bond from the very beginning. A devoted man of God, Albert’s life was a beautiful reflection of his deep and steady love for the Lord. Growing up in a military family, Albert’s early years were filled with adventure, taking him across the globe to places like the Philippines. These experiences shaped the worldly, kind-hearted man he became. After graduating from Spingarn High School in D.C. and attending Lincoln University, he dedicated many years of service to the Columbia Public Schools system until his retirement.
Albert’s life was anchored by his faith and his community. As a devoted member of St. Paul AME Church, he served with a servant’s heart as both a Trustee and a Steward. He also shared a deep brotherhood with his fellow Masons as a Lifetime Member of Rising Sun Lodge No. 164 F & AM. Even in his quieter years, Albert’s spirit remained active, always finding joy in hischurch and lodge.
Those who knew Albert will remember him for his gentle kindness and his profoundly grateful heart. He was a man of simple, beautiful pleasures—he found peace in a quiet morning sunrise, the thrill of a day spent fishing, and the simple wonder of the outdoors. Above all, he cherished the Lord. Whether he was lending a helping hand or supporting a church event, Albert’s generosity knew no bounds.
Albert was reunited in heaven with his parents, Augusta and Nathanial Cornelius Newsome. He leaves behind a legacy of love in his children, Elisha Newsome, Albert Newsome Jr., and Ellen Archibald; his former wife and friend, Ernestine Newsome; and his dear brother, Alvin Newsome. His spirit will live on through his grandchildren—Isaac, Ava, Alivia, and Jordyn—as well as his niece Rachel, nephew Alvin Jr., and a wide circle of extended family and friends who were blessed to know him.
"His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant!” You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’" — Matthew 25:23
