Al Canagan Jr., 68, of Columbia, passed away on Monday, December 23, 2024, at Landmark Hospital in Columbia. Services will be held on Friday, January 10, 2025, at 1:00 PM at St. Luke United Methodist Church in Columbia. Visitation will be held from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at the church. Al Canagan Jr., 68, of Columbia, MO, passed away at Landmark Hospital in Columbia on Monday, December 23, 2024. Mr. Canagan was born in Kansas City on March 15, 1956, to Al Canagan Sr. and Ollie Canagan.
Al's educational journey began in the Kansas City School District, laying the groundwork for his future aspirations. With unbridled enthusiasm, Al cheered on the Kansas City Royals and his beloved Kansas City Chiefs. Al's passions extended to gardening, cooking, and savoring quality time with his family. In 2001, Al boldly moved to Columbia, MO, blossoming into a skilled cook at Sutton's Place, pursuing his dreams with renewed purpose.
Al leaves to cherish his memories: lifelong partner of the home, Cassandra Kheswa. He has two sons, Dwayne White (Debra) and Christopher Canagan, both of Kansas City, Missouri. Four daughters, Carmen Canagan and Corrine Canagan, both of Kansas City, Missouri, and Jasmine Sutton and Kimonie Sutton, both of Columbia, Missouri.
He has 20 Grandchildren and 3 Great-Grandchildren, four brothers-in-law and five sisters-in-law, and a host of cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Al Canagan Sr. and Ollie Canagan; his father-in-law, Jimmy Sutton Sr.; his mother-in-law, Mary Sutton; his maternal grandparents, Inez Barnett and Nathan Heard; and his paternal grandparents, Bert and Naomi Canagan. His brothers Jerry Sutton, Dennis Smith, and Sister Martha Jones also preceded him in death.
