Sonya Holmes

August 22, 1970 - February 23, 2022

Sonya LeAnn Holmes, age 51 of Columbia, Missouri passed away February 23 2022 at the University Hospital from natural causes. Sonya was born August 22nd 1970 in Decatur, Illinois. She spent most of her years in Columbia, Missouri. While brief, she lived a wonderful life of love and laughter. Always with a passion to put others first she graduated with a nursing degree and begin her working career as a Licensed practical nurse. Continuing that same spirit as her children grew up she quickly became known as "Momma" to so many friends. She enjoyed spending time with her family. Whether a good cook out or a good spades game she was certainly the life of the party. Loved a good groove when it's music in the air and could always crack a joke haha. In her final years she battled with kidney failure and was a fighter to the very end, always a woman who lived on her own terms. She is survived by her 5 children, Quantez Griffin, Quinton Griffin, SharRon Taylor, Byron Anderson and D'ante Taylor. Her brother Corey Griffin and her numerous grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her mother Luticha Leora Griffin, and her brother Brian LaMont Griffin. Her body has left this world but her spirit will live on through the hearts and minds of those who loved her. A small celebration of her memory will be held at a later date
