Bettie Christian Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Bettie Christian, 89, of Columbia, passed away on Friday, June 17, 2022, at The Bluffs in Columbia. Services will be on Saturday, June 25, 2022, at 1:00 PM at H.T. May and Son Funeral Home in Boonville. The visitation will be from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the funeral home. Bettie Jean Christian was born March 18, 1933, at Ravenswood Farm near Bunceton, MO, the daughter of Edgar Smith and Catherine Gray Smith. She retired from the University of Missouri after many years. She was a member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Bunceton. She was a member of the Missouri Negro High School Alumni Association. She leaves to cherish her memory two daughters Diann Jones of Columbia, MO, and Carolyn Tyler of Fredericksburg, VA, one son Gilbert Christian Jr. of St. Paul, MN, one sister, SIster Marie Martin Smith of Cincinnati, OH, and a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Gilbert Christian Sr., one daughter Cynthia Christian, two sons Melvin Christian and Leonard "Buddy" Christian, two sisters Leola Meneese and Essie Catherine Eston, and three brothers Lloyd Smith, Edgar Smith Jr. and Alfred Smith.
