Alveda Gulley

Alveda Inez Gulley died Wednesday, April 13, 2022, in Marshall, MO at the age of 77. She was born on February 7, 1945, in Kansas City, MO to Alvin Robertson and Claudie Edgenton. She is survived by her husband, Otis Gulley, her children: Aleda Carroll-Monroe, Alvin Gulley and his wife Makayla, John Gulley and his wife Cecelia, Timothy Gulley, Janice Hopke and her husband Aaron Hopke, Ashley Gulley, and Korey Gulley. Her siblings: Shelia Gray, Alvin Robertson, Jr. and his wife Chiara, Christia Jones, and Mark Robertson and his wife Rebecca. She is also survived by many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Alveda was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses on July 9, 1977, after a careful study of Bible truths. Soon after baptism, she began preaching to and teaching people about the Bible, full time as a pioneer. Seeing people learn about Jehovah and make changes in their lives, brought her great joy. She continued serving as a pioneer for over 41 years until her death. On September 29, 1990, she married Otis Gulley, who loved pioneering just as much as she did. She considered it a blessing to share her life with someone who loved Jehovah and his wonderful family became her own. She was a loving and faithful wife, a proud and caring mother, and a dependable and thoughtful friend. Alveda never met a stranger. She would strike up a conversation no matter where she was, a store, doctor’s office or even from her own hospital bed. The location or circumstances never mattered. The beautiful hope of God’s kingdom was ‘like a burning fire in her bones’, and she couldn’t hold it in. While there’s no way to encapsulate 77 years in a few paragraphs, a few things are clear. She loved her God, her family, and her friends. And whatever life threw her way, her faith in God’s promises helped her endure and have peace, right to the end.
